Women exploitinging their sexuality to entice men - even if it has nothing to do with the subject at hand? A story as old as human history...

Of course, not all women do it, and not all men fall for it. Nonetheless, it happens literally everywhere.

I think that what you omit is important to add: most viewers if virtually almost all of them are young males.

So female streamers, like every streamer, leverage what the viewers are more likely to fall for, in this case, sexualization.

When in doubt, it's because "men".

Sure, sex sells, but no one is forcing them to stream themselves in bikinis for money. It's time to stop blaming every societary ill on men and their biology. In a consensual monetary transaction, there are always two parties.

That post was flagged for some reason.
Reposting in short order because an earlier post was flagged is not great.

If you think flagging is inappropriate, you can email and sometimes the mods will remove and/or disable flags on a post. But “the community has judged it inappropriate so I'll keep submitting it” is not the right avenue of appeal.

Your points are valid, however in this instance the submissions came from different accounts.
"Researchers"
Why is researchers in scare quotes? I just checked, both authors have doctorates and have published papers in this field of study.
Because you don't need to research this to see that it's obviously true and has been true throughout history.

Really wish Twitch had stayed true to its lewd ban of 2014[0] instead of becoming Chaturbate 2.0.

"you don't need to research this to see that it's obviously true" is actually an incredibly important category of topic to research—because if you're right, then you have documented, peer-reviewed proof of what we believe to be true, which people can cite for writing their own papers...and if you're wrong...well, then, you've demonstrated something novel and possibly opened up a new area of research within your field.
Exactly. I have my degree as well, so I was doing some research of my own. It’s an ongoing thing.
Exposing yourself on platform for minors, and somehow you are the victim!
There's isn't even any nudity lol, you're not gonna see any less coverage than you would at the beach. Please take the "won't someone think of the children!" nonsense elsewhere.
Why is this even a surprise? Pornographic content is massively popular with the Twitch demographic (young men); surely we can't be surprised that people will produce that kind of content if it's popular (i.e. it pays well). OnlyFans exists, right? This is just boundary-blurring.
My own bias sees prudes and very religious right leaning types on HN posting all sorts of posts on “porn” or women’s sexuality lately. These links always come from highly suspect sites. I say bias as I can’t imagine where else the pearl clutching is coming from. “Just asking questions” I guess.
> the researchers collected a sample of 1,920 video clips from Twitch.tv. These clips were selected based on their popularity within the most frequented categories of the platform. The sampling process was carried out from September to October 2022, focusing on the top videos within the videogame and “In Real Life” (IRL) categories, which were further broken down into subcategories like “JustChatting,” “ASMR,” and “Pools, Hot Tubs & Beaches.”

This isn’t measuring whether female streamers are sexualizing themselves. It’s measuring what kind of clips get the most views from Twitch’s audience of mostly young male viewers. It shows that they watch a lot of clips from women using Twitch to advertise their OnlyFans pages, who tend to stream in the categories listed.

There are many popular female Twitch streamers who just play video games (in categories dedicated to video games) and are not sexualizing themselves at all.

“Especially because, despite references to the concept of sexual freedom, self-sexualization often responds to a patriarchal idea created based on the male ideology.”

Sounds more like they make a quick buck. The behavior is a response to capitalism not on the male ideology.

Where is the "uncovering" in this? It's not even an open secret, it's just known reality.
Exactly my thought. But putting "researchers" makes it suddenly credible... lol

Methods: We watched any female streamer ever since the beginning of streaming.
My son told me this a few years back - I guess he's a researcher.
