Ask HN: What is the current state of live translation?

My ideal scenario: I'm having a conversation with one other person, we are both wearing a personal mic or earbuds connected to our Android phones. We're using the same app and we can have a conversation in our respective languages with low-latency: it would feel like we are in a UN meeting with a real-time translator.

Can I have this now?

I have seen a demo of earbuds that can do that... you could even share an earbud with the other speaker so it could translate for both (I forgot what the brand/model is though)

Has anyone got experience with such a product? If it works, I'll happy purchase but like most of us here I'm sure, I've been burned by expensive tech that doesn't follow through.
