Hey HN, is there any interest in starting a GoFundMe for Lasse Collin (the xz maintainer)? I'm thinking of it as a show of support for Lasse's contributions to open source, and turning the lemons of this backdoor situation into lemonade.

I'd set one up myself but I'm worried I might look like a grifter. Anyone here with more OSS credibility interested in setting one up? I'm ready to donate...

Has anyone even talked to them? While they probably need less stress I've heard nothing of them since the incident other than the most recent commit removing the period from the cmake file.

Lasse Collin deserve more. Dude thanklessly maintained a the project that supported half of the world. Had serious mental health issues tht malicious actors exploited and now he is embroiled in the most insane OSS scandal ever. As part of the community we must help the man out to chill and relax a bit. He doesn’t deverse his community.

I looked up and GoFundMe at least is available for recipients in Scandinavia, if that’s where they are.

I feel the need to support as well, as this could easily have been me some years back. Lasse should be put in the groups of saints of open-source. If Lasse were to read it: Just a shout out at least, your work is appreciated a lot and I not once thought that this is your fault or anything near it.
