How? There is nothing in current federal law that would allow anything close to that level of reduction.
When SBF was first indicted there are a lot of unrealistic comments about how he won't do any time because he donated to politicians for a cycle or two. Those comments didn't age so well.
I really hate to say it, but experience shows rich people play in a different legal system. I’m guessing this estimate is correct. He’ll appeal, play nice and get out in less than half the sentence time.

People have been saying this since the beginning of the case, with the goal posts constantly shifting. Same for Holmes. Do you have any evidence for rich criminals getting significantly shorter sentences in federal prison than others?
Hell, the same things were said about Shkreli, and he served 6 years 5 months of his 7 year sentence.
The biggest inequalities in the system exist before anyone ever gets charged. And when you go and blab about your crimes to anyone who'll listen, you end up negating much of the benefit that more expensive lawyers can bring you.
Look at the verbiage. This system superficially cares about the 'appearance' of justice. This guy is doing the Fed's 85%. If he gets out early for health/etc reasons, he will be on home confinement until he does his 85%. If they re-adjust his sentence they will have to find a pretty specific pigeon hole to use because the Feds HATE setting precedents that can be used by others to reduce their time.
I’m curious if 85% federal time means he can be released early on ankle monitor? For example he does 50% in the prison and 35% outside with a monitor and check ins.
