Ask HN: Air for Xcode? 1 points by NarcisMirandes 2y ago ↗ HN I would love to have a MacBook Pro with M3 Pro chip. But is it reasonable to work with an Air M3, 512 SSD, and 16 RAM? I want to use it regularly with Xcode.
[–] throwaway11460 2y ago ↗ That laptop is several times more performant than the Intel i9 Macbook Pro. It's much more than reasonable.
[–] ancient_cthulhu 2y ago ↗ Definitely! I would get as much RAM as I can, but that's about it. [–] NarcisMirandes 2y ago ↗ Thank you!The next RAM is 24GB and +200$, is it necessary or convenient? Is more RAM more influential than more SSD for performance in Xcode? Is an Air spec up better than a Pro M3 Pro bàsic (512 SSD, 18 RAM)? [–] throwaway11460 2y ago ↗ RAM helps a lot for devs. Much more than a big disk, IMHO. It's not necessary but it's very convenient.

[–] warrenm 2y ago ↗ Worry more about RAM than anything elseXcode runs admirably on an M1 ... it ought to only do better on later revs of the CPU family :)
