"Book-reading is strongly associated with college education."
I thought it was more associated with mental curiosity, a desire to better one's self, and the desire to keep learning. Those qualities might overlap with a college degree but not necessarily.
I'm curious if any research has been done on the mental/cognitive effects or differences between reading a book visually versus listening to an audiobook. I listen to a lot of audiobooks both because of the ability to multitask and because dyslexia/aging eyes makes it harder to visually read.
As a teenager, I would say I still like reading books (I'm in EU) but one of the things that makes us hesitate is the dopamine we can get from IG or even Discord servers!! It's so easy to lose the attention during reading a book.
Attention is like a muscle, if you don't exercise it you lose it. But you can get it back by exercising it. Just read far enough from your phone/laptop/smartwatch
