[ 2.5 ms ] story [ 16.8 ms ] threadMany writers have already explored this rather obvious heist, including Bruce Schneier and Cory Doctorow.
Getting you hooked, as a user dependent on their drug has been the MO of BigTech for decades now.
They have fancy names like "relationship building" and "network effects" to this age-old ruse. "AI" will only enhance the speed and depth with which digital technologies can insinuate themselves into human lives and gain a foothold. You are just meat to be hacked and have a rootkit installed in.
One of the greatest skills/powers that human beings will have in coming times is the ability to detach. To say "fuck it". To walk away. Burn it. To begin again. To reinvent yourself. To let it all go... all the familiar convenience, the treasured identity, the likes and karma and social credits... the things you think you "own" that own you (Chuck Palahniuk).
That will be your superpower.
