Ensuring code security while working with remote developers

Hi, I have a small dev shop with 3 - 4 people working, and I hire developers who work remotely. Since we cannot provide devices to our developers until now, how can I ensure code safety so that the codes are not misused or stolen?

Could you please suggest any tools or systems that I can implement to ensure the proper safety of the code? Especially, when a developer leaves the company, how do you take full access to the developer so that he can no longer access the repository either from remote or locally?

Please suggest me some techniques that I could implement. Thanks!

You can add as much security as you want it won't stop someone malicious from stealing the code and modifying it once they have it. You can install monitoring software which no developer would agree to.you can host your own code repository server which developers can only access through VPN. Add a software license to your code repository, if they are caught violating your license you will automatically win a civil lawsuit(if you find out code was stolen).
