I don't really understand the Japanese obsession with removing human contact everywhere.

I've seen videos of restaurants where you sit down in a closed booth, order from a touchscreen, and the food comes out of a slot. It's so weird. This doesn't seem like cost optimization through automation because behind the wall people are still working, it was just human contact avoidance for the sake of it.

Here in Spain we enjoy dining with many people and this kind of automated service would be so clinical and terrible. I'm glad I don't live in Japan :)
