Ask HN: Recommendations for reducing copyright liability on hosted website
Ok, I know it sounds bad, but hear me out. A friend of mine has a business that keeps getting copyright takedown notices from certain companies on some content. These notices are over-eager and frivolous, but fighting them all is not sustainable.
I’m looking for recommendations on what it would take to host content in a way that these notices could be ignored. E.g. what sort of legal structures, trail covering, domains, registrars, etc. would ignore takedown requests from e.g. US based companies. Specifically I’m thinking how does Pirate Bay or sci- hub manage to stay online, and what would it take do enable that.
I know this sounds like a request to commit illegal activity, and it’s not. This is really a request for advice on how to maintain anonymity of ownership for a website in a way that will provide some shelter against weaponized use of the DMCA.
