Ask HN: Source of information on LLM/AI for a newbie

I was asked to compile current state of LLM/AI without the marketing fluff or the extreme takes ( 'its 90s dotcom/crypto hype all over again' or 'ai will kill us all' ) with an idea that a non-technical person could understand how it works, its underpinnings, and so on.

I personally run ollama locally, but it occurred to me that it is not easy for me to explain it.. suggesting that I don't know it ( or understand it ) that well at all. Then again, I didn't go past training my own llm so I clearly still have a lot to learn myself.

Do you guys have any current 'howto' or primer for non-technical people you could recommend?
