I think this doubles your ram requirements to make sure the turnover from blue to green goes smoothly.
You can definitely save money with a $5 droplet or less with VPS somewhere since the jump from hobby/free to pro is so large these days with the tiniest of throughput, but then you have to worry about uptime and security, non-edge response times and cdn too. Vercel et al bet most won't do that.
