Ask HN: Getting Started with Machine Learning? (Not AI/NLP/Transformers)

Few days ago I felt like learning the "basics of ML". But most of the pages I found on the internet were about transformers, GPT, fine tuning llama, etc.. and that's not what I'm looking for.

I want to start with the stuff that was cool before ChatGPT was a thing. And I'm not that interested in NLP. I also won't expect much from the output, as I just want to train some small models and play around with them.

I have a fairly powerful PC and enough RAM and VRAM, so hardware shouldn't be the problem.
