WhatsApp Leaking Contacts to FB

So.. i had a new contact in whatsapp who is not my circle of friends, someone who is totally random. I have been chatting with that person for the last week or so in whatsapp. When i open my FB account, i see this person who was in whatsapp now show up in People You May Know section in Facebook, i was shocked to be honest. What in whatsapp is encryped nowadays? is the messages un-encryped as well?

Metadata (who you speak to, how often, etc.) are NOT encrypted (and subject of personalization, marketing, improving app performance etc.).

Yea this happens to me too. The other person probably gave facebook access to their contacts.
