I think her slow unwind from the association has been handled carefully. She demonstrated an intent to spend on her core value issues, and from the press I read has been remarkably good about it.

I have no particular beef with the Gates foundation, far from it: they're one of the few agencies I know of at scale which has given the finger to the US government see-saw on women's reproductive health and contraception issues funding development, and keep doing it no matter what bird-brains in the US government systems say. My belief is that Melinda Gates was responsible for this. Mainly, I don't like how at some level there was an implicit "..but we do expect you to use core microsoft product to achieve this outcome.." tag on the money.

If she choses to intervene in the current womens health issues in the US leading into the election, I for one (not a US citizen or resident) would be very happy. If she decides to keep out and keep doing the work in emerging economies, also very happy.
