The few times I have been dragged into the Apple universe, I have been astounded by how relatively simple concepts appear to have been obfuscated for no apparent benefit or purpose except perhaps to keep users corralled.

Media storage (music and photos) is one example. It seems that even Apple has trouble keeping it straight.

It's a business strategy, they make everything non-Apple worse to use on purpose so that you are kept within their ecosystem.

Same reason why airpod & watch equivalents cannot offer the same functionality on an iphone or why any non-apple cloud sync cannot work as smoothly.

It's not limited to photos. I have a work-issued iPhone and I had all my deleted Voice mails show up again.
