This game is definitely the spiritual successor of Supreme Commander and Total Annihilation. Funny thing, SupCom was almost 20 years ago, and it was was a successor of something only 10 years prior.
The explicit list of balance changes in the changelog is a nice touch. That's probably one of the most difficult things to tweak in an OSS RTS like this.
