Tell HN: Stwicfm,Woitwicfy

I got the most amazing slack from the CEO:

"sending this when its convenient for me, work on it whenever is convenient for you."

Maybe every slack message should be assumed to be STWICFM,WOITWICFY unless otherwise stated. Would clear up so many freak outs over messages from the boss at odd times.

more than that: you shouldn’t need ti respond immediately in work hours.

such messages really should be done via the task management system, for example a JIRA comment.

slack for all the things is the problem. it is a crutch to allow bad organizational skills. just yell when a thought pops into your head is not great for the team.

but if you know they are working on X and it is about X then comment on the X ticket.

Slack should also allow message queues which don’t alert but can be consumed once or twice a day by people for non urgent stuff.

oh man, hard disagree. You are taking all the humanity out with JIRA only communication. If it's slack, or glue, or SMS txt, I want to "talk to people" that is type to people during my day.
Social communication is of course needed and a seperate thing. The Jira comment may lead to a meeting anyway, but at a time that suits all.
Yup, we've sort of assumed this is the standard. Lots of people here love to work at 2 AM. We used to schedule messages for 9 AM, but that happens to be when nobody reads them. A lot of good chats start at 1 AM, when people are in the zone and don't have to drop off in 14 minutes for another meeting.
I read them. And then I click on "remind me in 1/3/6 hours" or whatnot, once I realize that it's not urgent.
I spent 20 seconds trying to work out which Eastern/Central European language this headline was written in.
I briefly considered ROT13-ing it before clicking through!
