Has Google ever rolled out a “feature” that wasn’t in alpha/beta? I’m honestly having problems imagining Apple, for example, releasing something this buggy just to appease investors.
If rumours are to be believed, Apple seem to have been pressured into doing something with OpenAI. I just hope it's opt-in or easy to turn off, whatever it is.
Wasn’t Gmail beta for a long time ?

It's almost as if the output of neural networks can't be predicted reliably.
Feels click baity. AI overview is still enabled for an overwhelming majority of searches (if you are logged into your Google Account)

I'm only here because I thought it was turned off completely.

I was just trying to find a way to turn it off last night (doesn’t seem like you can on mobile safari).
Did they not test it internally first? So many of Google’s bad press could’ve been easily avoided with some simple QA or slow rollout with a small number of the worst users (e.g. trolls, chronically online, etc) to know how it might be abused. Black Nazis, glue on pizza, etc
Someone didn't tell the marketing department. I keep Google seeing AI everywhere all the time ads on YouTube.
