Shit is real. I'm also hoping we get a movie sequel, the first one was pretty good. If we also figure out how to break some of the existing stock cartels even better.
Didn't think there'd be an ape on HN. None of the 'theories' are real. There isn't naked shorting, the 'hedgies' aren't conspiring, and no, the CEO isn't communicating with you via children's books.
That's not the same as conspiracy, though. People and institutions are fleecing apes left, right, and centre because they refuse to learn how the market works.
Anyway, in 2022 a dude called RC rugpulled the Bed, Bath, and Beyond apes to the tune of $68 million. The smarter apes rage-quit, the dumber ones deny he sold and scour RC's really bad self-written children's books for clues to his next "moves". Bed Bath has since gone bankrupt but the remaining apes still believe they're going to make millions. RC has since gone on to become the CEO of Gamestop.
That's a very quick summary that leaves out A LOT of craziness in ape-land.
If you're talking about Dumb Money then I'm sorry that's just a bad movie. There's no 'rigged game' there's no 'heroic retail vs Big Bad Wall Street', and the vast majority of individuals who FOMOed in lost money and/or were left with heavy bags.
And to top everything off it could potentially (maybe already has) create a whole bunch of suckers who repeatedly get fleeced because they believe in conspiracy theories instead of repeated explanations of how the market works.
Did Roaring Kitting make that $150M by selling GME after his previous promotional efforts regarding the stock?
Seems like a pump and dump to buy low, promote, sell high, and then do it again with proceeds from the selfsame stock.

Eh, there are a few meme stock hedge funds in the wild now. They claim to follow these folks. Life finds a way.

Oooh, tell me more.

More a bear than an ape, but can let it stand. All I know is that the movie was good and I had 2 GME shares at one point and 0 now.
I do want to learn about children's books communication, seems interesting ;)
