“Lost” is an ambiguous word. It could cover the range between “Elon fired him in a fit of childish pique”, or “I’m sure he’s in the house somewhere, I just can’t seem to locate him, have you checked behind the couch?

Or what really happened which is that he resigned.

What's ambiguous about it in this context? It clearly means that person is no longer working there. It doesn't imply anything about why that person is no longer working there.
