I live in the Bay Area, I consider myself a leftist.
The progressive idea of "defund the police" and do interventions didn't work. The Hard right idea of "just lock them up" also didn't work.
You know what will change this... throw them in the back of a police car and give them the choice, rehab or jail. Do both and give the user the option.
And, housing and jobs when you get out of either are a MUST HAVE. This is another area where CA have dropped the ball.
