Not sure if this is intentional, but recent actions by Oracle are not helping MySQL adoption. It is great we have PostgreSQL and MariaDB but neither is complete MySQL replacement in all cases.
Docstore, Group Replication, MySQL Shell would be some of examples. The larger difference through is just compatibility - things do not work quite the same and if you're looking at large enough application you would likely require some changes to move one way or another.
