Ask HN: Is Generative AI living up to the hype?

It is relatively early on in the adoption of this technology. What are the current adoption trends? Is Generative AI truly delivering value? I ask because I've come across this recent analysis by Lucidworks, and it's prompted thoughts about whether this wave of AI is living up to the hype. because generative AI is very capital intensive and compute resource intensive.

Delivering on the hype? Yes. Delivering value? Of course not.

For the applications I see clients wanting to buy, no. Both the maturity and cost-saving potential of GenAI are greatly over-hyped.

From a non-tech business perspective, I expect the interest in GenAI to decline by years end. It's just not materialising the value stakeholders are expecting to see for the exorbitant investment.

Claude 3 Opus helped me (and many others) in a very tangible and real way just recently. It's a little too personal to mention here but with guidance and curating the responses, it's very impressive what it can help (me) do.
