This is the first time I've seen a discussion about what the relative risk is to drinking very few drinks:

> For those who have two drinks a week, that choice amounts to less than one week of lost life on average, he said. Consume seven alcoholic beverages a week, and that amount goes up to about two and a half months. Those who push five drinks a day or more face the risk of losing, on average, upward of two years, said Stockwell.

In most discussions/research, people who have 1 drink a week are lumped into the same category as people who drink 1 drink a day. I have some friends who gave up drinking entirely because their read of the research is that there's no safe amount. For me, having 2-3 drinks per month seems like an acceptable tradeoff for shaving a day or two off my life.
