HN is not a help forum. But letting you know about this as an annoyance that exists in MacOS, for decades that apple refuses to use default browser preference.

Yeah this is ridiculous, how on earth was that answer accepted?

Doesn't Apple get income from directing search queries in their browser to Google? Seems like an incentive to not fix the issue.
That could not be significant if a default browser is already set.
