I became aware of this while listening to episode 980 of the Security Now podcast [0], in which Steve Gibson points out that this attack is not limited to close proximity attackers.
Any compromised routers out there can be used to stage this attack against vulnerable Windows PCs on the network, making a significantly larger portion of real users directly vulnerable to PC takeover (vs. being in direct proximity of an attacker).
