90,000 public comments on a road in an incredibly remote area? That doesn’t sound right…
I’m skeptical there was no way to construct this road in a way that could address environmental concerns. Feels more like a win for the anti-human movement.
The commenting process for federal regulations has always fascinated me. Americans across the country sit down every day and respond to proposed regulations even if those regulations have no impact on them whatsoever. They often drown out the nonprofits and advocacy groups who work tirelessly to advance their cause on that issue.
The government is required to respond to those comments, not individually, but woe be the team that has to read through them all. I have not looked, but I would venture to guess less than 10% of the comments come from Alaskans.
