Show HN: Contractors doing side work can send me pricing in iMessage (textpricing.com)
Why I built this: I got so sick of following up 1000x times with contractors I was hiring to do odd jobs around my house I built my HVAC guy a tool to send me a professional looking quote in iMessage in under a minute. In my area, the best guys are doing side work and they don't really have any front office staff to help them with admin aspects like quoting, invoicing, etc.
The way we did business before is they come to the job site, or ask for pictures.
Then they text me a price for usually 2 options with the higher option being the job I actually asked them to scope out and the 2nd option being some scoped down version (that I don't want because it doesn't accomplish my goal of XYZ). After work is completed they expect Zelle or cash. (Now a few guys will take a personal check because they trust it will clear from me after doing 3-4 projects that went smooth).
Every time I tell the same guys look I literally don't care as long as we're in budget of ballpark what I'm thinking.
So if its 550 or 562.87 or 599.99 I literally don't care if I'm budgeting roughly 5-600 for the project. Just give me a number, don't make me think to hard about it and show up on the date you tell me you're going to come.
So now I have 1 guy actively using this tool I built for him to just quickly share pricing via iMessage from his iphone.
Take the URL and imessage/whatsapp/sms it to yourself and you can see how the quote renders as part of the link preview. After they send me the "quote" I just thumbs it up or reply in a thread if i have a question about something. Honestly i usually just thumbs it up and they'll shoot me a follow up text a day later or so that they're coming the following week on tuesday at 6pm or whenever.
The cool thing is for jobs that are maintenance or something that is pretty standard from a price/statement of work perspective, they can just literally send the same URL to other clients and its literally no admin work (these guys don't like admin work).
Curious what folks think about this. I had fun building it.
