[–] delichon 2y ago ↗ For long-term space habitation it will help to have a lot of shielding against radiation, and water is a leading option for that. And it looks like fish do well in microgravity.https://www.space.com/china-tiangong-space-station-zebrafish...And they taste good. So maybe fish will beat birds to space habitats and astronauts will live in a hollow inside of large aquariums. [–] cubefox 2y ago ↗ Though those fish weren't bred in space it seems. The quails at least hatched from eggs. They had increased rates of deformity. The big question is how humans born on Mars (38% of Earth gravity) would fare. [–] dinglestepup 2y ago ↗ Is water harvested on Mars habitable for fish? If not, bringing such large volume of water to orbit and/or Mars could be too costly. [–] elbasti 2y ago ↗ I don't know if it's on purpose, but the OP shares a title with one of my favorite paintings, Miró's "Birds in space II" [O][0]: https://www.museoreinasofia.es/en/collection/artwork/oiseau-...
