Probably because there's nothing very interesting to talk about on the subject, unless it was specifically about the tech and tactics used for protection. The comments are likely to turn into a monkey shit fight and the mods probably want to head that off.

Hacker News has literally nothing interesting to add to this topic. Trust me. It's not Facebook where you have to see how your cousin's brother feels about the new Despicable Me movie, this is a tech forum where we discuss relevant topics.

If somebody has a point to make about the role of social media in this kind of thing, or close user groups fomenting outrage then I guess we have something but to date the links I see are plain reportage.
