doesn't that make people less likely to work with them in the future even if their inside man has cold feet?

Maybe the inside man wasn't doing this willingly to begin with; maybe he was blackmailed.
These "hackers" are usually teens that figured out how to sim swap and/or bribed an employee. There's usually very little hacking involved. It's the ego driven nature of them that always brings them down.
The government isn't at all interested in securing fundemental infrastructure, having more measures against sim swapping? Seems like a huge national security issue
