Ask HN: What "obvious" computer things might your mother not know?

1 points by etothepii ↗ HN
While recently providing technical support to my mother (66) who has worked in an office environment from 1998 to 2018 I discovered that she did not know that resizing a window was on option (she knew about maximize and minimize).

I'm now thinking that there are likely a whole category of, to me, "obvious" things that she doesn't know that might be helpful for her to know.

To copy/paste in Google docs you need to install an extension. Lol at Google engineers being so useless.
I've met a lot of people who don't know how to cut and paste. For that matter a lot of people are intimidated by the thought of putting a phrase like 汉字 into a document. I have no idea how to type that with the proper input method but I can look up anything online or ask Copilot to write it and then cut and paste it.

Knowing how to scale web pages with CTRL + and CTRL - is another thing that I think a lot of people

I think you are near certain to be right.
