The Totem keyboard is high on my list of split 40% ergo keyboards to try.
Three great things about the Totem case design:
- The bottom plate has holes for switch sockets. This enables the keyboard to have a slightly lower profile by about 1-2 millimeters. This something I wish more low profile designers would do.
- The bottom place also has recessed holes for rubber case feet. This is lacking from most other designs. On other keyboards without those recessed holes, I've seen the rubber feet gradually slide away.
- The overall construction leaves no PCB exposed. With similar designs, your microcontroller is relatively exposed. This is quite rare in open source designs.
And of course I'm thrilled that both wired and wireless versions are open source. I wish I could say that about my first ZMK keyboard. Way too many offerings out there will copy open source designs but fail to give back to the community (whether they are required to or not is beside the point).
Only problem I have with the Totem is the Seeed XIAO BLE microcontrollers are relatively expensive compared to the competition.
