Ask HN: Should I open source my SaaS ScreenRun

I created ScreenRun last year and it has been moderately successful: 6,000 signups, 2,000 paid licenses.

But maintaining it alone is not easy.

So I’m considering open sourcing it, but still maintain the paid, hosted version as is.

Have you had similar experiences and what’s your advice?

If the alternative is to shut it down, give open source a try. If you want to make it a more viable business I think it might not help you much. 2k paid licenses is a lot! Well done.
