There's only one problem with Skype now: no one seems to be using it anymore.

I think that's the reason they removed it. The cost of running ads on Skype > the ad revenue.

I haven't used Skype in over 10 years, I can't really see a reason to start now

As I write this there are two comments both saying that nobody seems to use it any more, but just today I used it to discuss a job with one of my customers. This might be a rare occurrence, I do not know.
