Ask HN: Could you take out Starlink with space junk?

1 points by ThinkBeat ↗ HN
If someone wanted to take out the Starlink system, could it be achieved by throwing debris at it and could it be possible to target low earth orbit satellites without taking out others in higher orbit?

The question is in several parts.

In scifi, you could obtain stones, rocks, whatnot from comets, the moon, and various other place and use it as “ammo” and just target it and push it on its way. I don’t think we have that capability yet. If not then it could be either a combination of matter that is already in orbit, and matter that is rocketed up to provide “ammo”.

How many “pebbles” would be needed?

If careful could this avoid harming satellites in higher orbit?
