The ribosome lowers the entropic penalty of protein folding (Nature) (nature.com) 13 points by gradschoolfail 1y ago ↗ HN
[–] mjfl 1y ago ↗ There are also specific folding chaperones like HSP60 which is basically a barrel which isolates a newly translated protein from the rest of the cell so that it can fold properly, and then pops open to release it!https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaperonin [–] gradschoolfail 1y ago ↗ There are chaperones that bind to the ribosome. Hsp60/70 are found in higher conc near ribosome too.
