At least three of those professions seem like something I would want to be well-trained and certified and licensed. "Amateur firework operative" sounds like the start of a headline that ends with "three dead, eight injured".

This is just a willfully stupid argument. A good faith interpretation of this - in Louisiana, no less, where the water table is very close to the ground - is that the regulations are obviously there to protect the living from having corpses floating by during hurricane season, and not polluting local water tables.

The overall premise of this article isn't wrong, it's just written in the least unsympathetic possible way, like the guy in the supermarket line complaining that he got ticketed for parking in a handicapped spot because he was just running inside real quick, only for 15 minutes, hour tops, maybe three.
