> If Steve JOBS was alive he would ha kick everyone behind the idea of an appointment
Too much faith is put in Steve Jobs being able to turn things around these days. The man is in large part no longer alive due to a foolish assumption that a diet would miraculously save him. Hubris killed him, the market devoured everything he left behind and nothing he did during his lifespan prevented what Apple would become today.
You don’t need to try it before you buy. You can use the Apple Store app on your phone to scan your face to get the right size, order, and it will be delivered to your house.
If you want to do the demo first, you could see if they have appointments in the moment. I’ve gone on my phone and made appointments for things 5 minutes from the current time. I’ve done this at several places in the past, including Apple (back when Steve was alive).
If you are several hours from the city, I wouldn’t make a special trip to try out Vision Pro, but if you’re going for something else, you can take 30 minutes for the demo, then it’s 30 minutes and not hours.
I went through it, I wished the demo was a bit longer and gave me some time to explore on my own. Trying it for 5 minutes won’t really be that useful imo.
This isn’t Apple’s first appointment based demo. They had appointments for trying on watches with different brands as well. If something is new and there us a lot of demand for demos, making an appointment is a much better experience than showing up and finding out you need to wait in line for 5 hours.
If you're that upset about their system, just don't buy one and spend the money on a nice vacation outside the city instead :) Everyone will be happier then.
