Tell HN: Uber decided to block all my payments and I'm stuck while traveling

Traveled to SA, Uber worked for the first day, then all payments started failing and it asks me to try another payment method. I tried 3 different methods, none work. There is no phone support for Uber, you have to hope someone answers you in time. Meanwhile, you can be stranded, it’s all the same to them. I guess they have some suspicion, if it ends up all being legit, it’s worth all the headaches and danger of walking around in SA at night.

Not sure if this works when traveling but you can preload money to your Uber account via Uber gift cards the purchase of which seems to have less draconian twitchy transaction checks. Or someone could send you an electronic one.

I ended up using my wife’s card, and it worked fine. Her card is from outside the US. Seems Uber like it’s not as strict on non US cards. Maybe because chargebacks are less likely on those?
