The espn[0] site has more details. For anyone else who loves baseball and/or interested. The play-by-play for the second inning is fun. The change announcement for the inning was "Pinch hitting for Danny Jansen: Daulton Varsho. Defensive changes: Danny Jansen now at catcher."
He not only played (and batted) for both teams, but did so in the SAME inning. The game was halted while he was at the plate at the top of the inning with Toronto, and then he came in with Boston to bat with 2 outs at the bottom of the inning. He also ended the game when he came up to bat with 2 outs in the ninth, a strikeout.
Could have been worse: if he played for both teams at the same time he would have had to hit the ball and then tried to catch it.
I wonder if a footballer has every played both legs of a Champions League knockout game for different teams? (I don't think this could happen because the transfer window wouldn't be open during that period.)
Players who play for one team in the Champions League are even explicitly barred from playing for another in it in the same year. It avoids players getting poached in January, and perhaps shenanigans with loans and recalls.
I don't believe that would be possible. Morientes of course was on loan at Monaco in 03/04 from Real Madrid and scored a goal in either leg against them to take the tie to penalties and subsequently allowed Monaco to go thru.
It’s pretty remarkable to think in the 400k+ MLB games that have been played in 100+ years, this is the first time this has ever happened. To quote the line: “How can you not be romantic about baseball?”
