I don't see a reason to use this over pairdrop hosted running on my server or local pc.

Still sometimes I have to share files between computers/phones with old browser versions (and without the ability to install anything and without cables) that have outdated https certificates so most websites don't work.

Yep that's fair and i believe pairdrop can be configured to fallback to websockets to cover some cases :)
Also fun to just build tools without worrying about it existing!
