Show HN: An AI-Powered Language Tutor (talktotala.com)

I've been learning Spanish and got very bored of Duolingo's approach of rote memorization / repetition. I found myself constructing the responses based on the words the lesson had just taught me, rather than actually thinking about what I wanted to say and how I would say it. So I hacked together this tool to help me out!

Talk to Tala lets you chat about whatever you want in a free-form conversation with an AI-language tutor. If you're a beginner, you can use lookup/translation tools to help you out, and if you're more advanced, you can hide the text and use speech recognition to test your speaking skills. No matter your skill level, Tala will give you mid-conversation feedback on what you can be doing better. This combination has made me much more motivated to learn in the weeks I've been using it.
