Better to wait for Nintendo switch 2 before buying a console for the first time?

Hi,

I want to buy my 9yo his first game console. do yon think I should wait for Nintendo to release the replacement for their Switch before making that purchase?

Note that I don't know a thing about games and consoles.

There are many games coming out for the Switch still on top of the huge library already available, many of which are now discounted because they’ve been out a while. Iirc they’re not even going to announce the successor until 2025, meaning it may not arrive until 2026. They’ll prolly aim for it to be on shelves in December 2025, but the OG Switch was released in March so who knows.

Anyway, does your kid want a switch? By the time the second comes out they may have decided they’re a PC gamer. Hell by the time you get back from the store they may have decided they’re going to play guitar not games. Kids move fast.

You are 100% right. Kids are moving super fast. I might just buy my son that console and not wait that long for something that might not be announced, and available anytime soon.

Last gen and discounted is the right choice for someone that age. Save "keeping up with Joneses" for when he's older and earning an allowance.
