Hey HN

I came across this idea two years ago when my first child was born. my partner and I use different phone OSes (pixel/iphone), so we have different media storage that we can't easily collect together.

We also find it difficult to share photos and videos easily, other than just sharing on WhatsApp.

My father-in-law has cassette tapes of when my partner was a child. and I want to be able to preserve the media we take today, so that we can also view it in the future.

It is not a sure thing that Google photos (or apple) will even preserve your data now unless it is a way for them to get profit, and the "camera roll" means that there's so many photos and videos of everyday life, all the photos are just mashed together into one blob.

I originally started this as a SaaS, and people tried to buy it, but I realized I was falling into the same trap (I also don't want a second job). So now I want to make this open source, and open-designed from the get-go.

My intentions is that digitapes becomes an open ecosystem of interconnecting services so that we can preserve and transform our personal media into the future. Let me know what you think!

It’s unclear from the site what the system does now, vs what a larger ecosystem could bring. Can you provide a demo or screenshots to clarify?
