Ask HN: Jumping from FAANG –> Startup

3 points by NotAnOtter ↗ HN
I know this question has been asked before but I feel it's a moving target. We seem to mostly be coming out of the economic dry spell from 2021-2024Q2, and startups might be the place to be again, soon.

After floating around in faang companies for a while (5 YOE) I'm moving to a startup to see what kind of work I can pull off there.

Any tips? Anyone done this move recently?

Keep in mind that a startup really needs people who can build end define entire systems with minimal requirements, and not just operate within a well defined framework. It feels like so many ex faangs I have interviewed were too accustomed to being siloed.
I'm aware, that's part of why I'm jumping. There is so much overhead in FAANG that you have to spend months dealing with approvals, documentation, etc. that it really only makes sense to silo.

I'm hoping to join a team where I contribute to many ranges of feature sets.
