Desert land is already cheap, energy storage prices will come down, its just a question of how much. Grid storage can take weight penalties that typical battery users cant
But hey, at least you can reserve your 1.7 billion in batteries with only a $1,000 deposit!

On a more serious topic, they seem to have their economics backwards a bit when it comes to battery prices. They say "And efforts to scale batteries on an artificial timetable drive up prices." this is a strange argument. While it's true that many people trying to buy batteries drives up the price, this isn't really a bad thing per se, since it will presumably by driven back into improvements in the production chain.

I guess we’re fucked then. I don’t think this article provided any solutions.
Nuclear fission is a solution.

Okay then where are all the nuclear power plants being built right this minute today? Don’t give me like two examples, there was about 30GW of solar alone added last year, which is 10-15 plants a year for nuclear.
Oh, bummer, do we have to go back to that one coal power plant that powers the whole earth?
This is not a thoughtful piece. It has no place on the front page here. It appears to be an anti-solar piece but gives exactly zero insight or color to whether solar is useful (yes), economical (very yes), or grid compatible (definitely).

It also gives zero insight on whether grid storage, including chemical batteries, pumped hydro, or other is useful (yes), or economical (yes).

And caring about Elon Musk's opinion is foolish in the first place.
