Good for them! This is one of the reasons (after learning opportunities) that run Linux.

Yeah I thought it was kind of cool. Like I intuitively assume everyone runs either Windows or macOS, and that's not the case. A surprising number of non-technical people run some form of linux, it connects well with the kind of person who's used to doing their own stuff and saving money. Like if you can replace your cars radiator and fix your own pipes, you probably (correctly) assume you can install your own OS.

Unfortunately (from a business perspective) the kind of person who is used to doing all their own maintenance to save money is not likely to shell out $240 a year for a SaaS. I have tremendous respect for them, however they don't make for good customers lol. I'm building out a self-host option to appeal to parents like that, however I don't know how it will make any money beyond advertising for the paid service.
