She's the commissioner for values and transparency, which is basically defined as rule of law. I'm not sure what's so absurd here; rule of law has been a bit of an ongoing concern for the EU since inception, and is one of the major criteria for countries who want to join (before Erdogan essentially ended any near-term hope of Turkish accession, it was Turkey's biggest area to improve in, say; the EC essentially issues a scorecard).

Take a step back. Imagine it's 2015. Put yourself in your own mindset from those times. Them read the headline and think about how absurd it is.
